I have 96 xj with the 4.0. I drove it all around yesterday with no issues at all. I turned it off then came back out 5 minuets later and it wouldn't start! It cranks and sounds like it wants to start. Every so often while trying to start it pops back through the throttle body. I thought maybe bad gas or bad fuel pump. Both are good! I did replace the CPS last year but I know parts go bad. I havnt had a chance to check spark yet. Any ideas at all on what it may be? Thanks!
Divide and conquer. Check for spark. If present, check for fuel pressure.
Depending on where you got the CPS, 1-year might be all she wrote. Dealership or NAPA seem to have the better replacements.

And my recommendation is to only use Mopar crank sensors. I like NAPA, but any and all aftermarket crank sensors seem to have more issues than Mopar.

Finally had time tonight to check spark, and there Is no spark at all! Fuel pump is kicking on and working. I'm thinking since I bought an Oriellys CPS just a year ago it could be bad?

Not to get this off topic, but I had and 88" Start-stall issue. I went from forum to forum for years. After doing nites and days of reading, diagnosting, changing sensors. You name it I did it, I should just listen to my gut after I changed the CPS and it still wouldn't run.
So anybody that comes across this and has a renix, if your getttin spark and fuel but for only a couple cranks or couple seconds, Its your ecu. If its not getting either of the two, then refer to the thread or others. SEARCH.
Sorry to get off topic, but after a year of listening to all these so called jeep experts and mopar guys, I went with my gut and got a used ecu for 60$ and 2 years later its alive!!!
and Its been the best day ever.. Im actually Driving a jeep that had me pullin my hair out for goin on 2 years on and off. Then the brake line blew
Now I got a wj, and already built my 95 though so its for sale :/
Btw, were would I post my experiences with the 88" Im new to this furum and don't want to get the rep's and all the people with no humanity or patience mad..

Well I got the new CPS in today from Mopar. I have an issue tho. My old one I took off and the new one I put on a few months had 2 tabs to put bolts through. This new only has one. The parts took my VIN and said this was the correct one. Anyone else run into this?

Yeah, that's definitely not the right part...
Your parts guy is an idiot.
That CPS fits a Grand Cherokee.
You need this one.

Assuming yours is an OBD-II Jeep.

When you replace it cut slots in the tabs so all you have to do next time is loosen the bolts and slide it up.
