IOD fuse blows
Hi, guys! Old Jeeper here, but new to XJs! I am looking at buying a 2000 XJ, stripper, believe it's an SE. No power anything except mirrors, basic gauge cluster without tach. The IOD fuse blows. When it blows, I get almost no resistance to ground at the load side of (#16) fuse. I have checked : wiring to doors and hatch, radio, dome light power. I've disconnected PCM and TCM harnesses while short is evident with no effect. When ignition is turned on, I get 2.5 or 2.6 ohms to ground and am able to insert a fuse and have it hold. When I first turn the ignition to off, the fuse holds, but when I return some hours later, the fuse is blown, and it again appears to show a dead short. At some time, the Jeep was hit at the right door, so I cant readily inspect the harness which goes down that side below the door, but disconnecting it doesn't remedy the short. This thing only has 82000 miles on it, and I want to buy it, but not if I cant fix this!
Does anyone have any ideas where else I might look to locate the short? Seems strange that it would go away when the ignition's turned on! Thanks in advance!
