Exclamation Two Seat Belt Buckles? Which one is Safest?

Bought a use Cherokee. Previous owner states that both work just fine but I have a feeling one is safer than the other?

Would you guys recommend using the one attached to the seat or the one attached to the floor?

Included a photo for you reference.

Thanks!

They should both be attached to the floor. Here’s mine. Looking from the tailgate. No rear seat but all belts are in place.

around 97 they moved the buckle to the seat base. I've always felt the floor was stronger personally.

In the OP's case, i'd pull the seat and remove the bucket from it and just use the floor mounted one.

I see a center console in that picture.

A previous owner moved the rear seat belts to the front, most likely because the drivers belt buckle quit working right. It's not uncommon.

One fix is snag a front passenger seat belt from the wrecking yard, swap on a driver side seatbelt plastic cover then install it.
