Default Intermittent starting

My 2000 xj is starting intermittently, like it will start normally then I can try it a half an hour later and nothing no clicking just dead. I changed the starter, battery, battery terminals and cleaned the ground cable going to the battery still does the same thing. Has anyone else had this problem?

Really? Nobody has any ideas about this? I'm going to change out the starting switch tomorrow, hope that's it.

Will it start in neutral as opposed to park?

Do you own a DMM & know how to use it? Just swapping parts gets expensive quick and rarely fixes the issue.

I'm leaning towards an NSS issue as well. If that component is marginal/intermittent, you will get NO power to your starter.

And yes, try starting it in neutral or while wiggling the shift lever while in park. If either of these techniques allows the engine to turn over and start, that verifies that you have an NSS issue. But even if those techniques don't help, the problem still can be the NSS.

Here is a link to refurbishing the NSS. It often restores full function to this switch.

Right work ah yes, we'll I have been on vaca for the past week and need to get this thing running REGULARLY come Monday morning. It's -5 now in Upstate NY and I'm getting impatient, I tried to shift the jeep into neutral nothing then I wiggled the shifter while trying to crank it over and it started. I'll give the NSS a good what for tomorrow, thanks for the lead, now enjoy the weekend.
