Default Intermittent smoking?

Went camping this weekend and had a good stretch of straight highway running aroung 65-70 mph and happen to look in my mirror and noticed my XJ was smoking. Got worried because was pretty much in middle of nowhere and me and the wife where looking forward to the little trip. I slowed down a little bit and it stopped, went to the first stop and checked the fluids, everything was fine. Got back on the road and went to the camping spot with no problems. Coming home today, exact same thing, smokes for just a minute or two then stops. I think it done before about a month ago pulling a trailer but I just thought it was a car behind me.

Any ideas? Never had a vehicle smoke then stop for 3 days then do it again just a little.

It's really hard to tell where it is coming from, it only has done it 3 times and always at highway speeds. It's enough to catch my eye in the rearview mirror every time. I hope I can get under her today to see if I can see something obvious.

I think I found it, the rear output seal is leaking and probably slinging ATF on the exhaust. Should have replaced it when I did the TC chain, atleast if thats it it's nothing major.

one thing you should check is your oil filter housing for leakage and your ccv system "oil in air filter, oil blow by out of dipstick"

Thanks, good idea, it all seemed dry around dip stick when I checked oil but didn't think about checking the air filter, I know I have a leak on the VC gasket but never drips to the carport. There is fresh ATF on TC end cone and on bottom of floorboard, thinking that may be it. Went to advanced and grabbed a new out-put shaft seal on the way to work today. Hope I can put it in this week sometime, was really surprised they had it in stock.
