Default Interior light won't go off

I just bought a 95 XJ. The interior light wouldn't go on. I openned the cover to see it had no bulb. When I replaced it with a new bulb I found that now it won't go off. Help please...

The head light switch could be bad, too. When you turn it all the way counter clockwise it overrides the door switches and turns the interior light on. I would say that is more likely your problem because the door switches are forced in when closed which turns the light off and then extend when either door is opened turning the light on. If a door switch was going to stick I'd say it would most likely stick in the door shut/off position. As stupid as this sounds, turn your headlight switch clockwise to see if the light shuts off.

Already tried the light switch. I'll try the door switches.

I noticed on my 99, after reinstalling my door switches, that I tightened them too far into the a-pillar. This didnt allow the switch to touch the door, thus leaving the light on. Check that too.

A bit of a thread revival to say thanks to Buck - I did forget about this and took all of the door switches off before searching and finding this post and realizing it was something simple!

CF rocks!

Take the door switches out one by one and make sure they are still plugged in. Had that problem with mine when I first got it. If something else hasnt already fixed your problem anyway.
