Just yesterday I helped a buddy with an injector swap. We yanked the Chinese 161 copy cat injectors and replaced them with rebuilt genuine S. The TJ runs correctly. There's a set about to go into my 95 Sport.
Anyway.. the jump from single hole injectors to twelve hole is well worth it in my opinion.
Cobra Marty and Justin? the guy that owns KFab suspension are two good sources of re-man genuine Bosch. Both sources rebuild and flow test each injector to 1% tolerance.
There's other sources that do the same I just name those two because they've been known here with a good track record for a long time.
I'm not sure about your 96, for my 95 to take full advantage of the finer spray of the Bosch 161 twelve hole injectors it needs a fuel injector pressure regulator swap to go along with the injectors.
BRB with numbers.
EDITED
From my notebook of notes collected.
It looks like you won't need it for your '96
"91-95 Jeeps with Fuel Pressure Regulators (FPR) on the fuel rail. Stock FPR Chrysler # 5303 0001b Supplies31psi@ Idle and 39PSI at wide open throttle (WOT)
Chrysler # 4418850 or 5277829 or 5277864 (Manufacturer: Delphi, Part#FP10046) Supplies 40psi @ Idle and 48PSI @ WOT Drops straight in, no modifications."
For the 91-95 owners
The FPR can be sourced from a **** ton of '92 - '97 Chrysler cars trucks and minivans in wrecking yards.
Or new for $40-$50
Another edit.
91-95 4.0' will run with 12 hole injectors without the regulator swap BUT.. The reason for the regulator swap on 91-95 is the 161 injectors need the additional 10 PSI to get the ultra fine 50 micron particle spray size which is the reason for the swap in the first place. The ECM trims the fuel map for the new injectors all by itself without re flash or chips.

I bought a set from Trevor for my 99. This is the thread I made for my 99. Don't know how similar it is for 96. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/fue...-99-xj-270761/

It's a no-brainer. Buy from a forum supporter and contributor. Trevor will supply the correct injectors for the application. They will be sent to you with the actual chart showing the flow rate of the injectors.
I've purchased a few sets from him and they were a top notch product.
Not some chicom knock-off or improper injectors for the application like many online sellers.
