I used a little bit of motor oil when I did it to my old Jeep.

I've always heard people say that petroleum jelly is the best thing to use.

I just used some left-over 5W-20 motor oil from when I did a change on my dad's focus. Worked just great, no issues. Basically anything that lubes it up should work.

according to the textbook Automotive Technology: A System Approach: First Canadian Edition it is best to use motor oil
just did a chapter on fuel system diagnosis and repair and this was one of the questions
12. What should be used on the injector sealing O-ring when installing an injector?
A) silicone grease
B) silicone sealant
C) engine oil
D) gasket cement

Petroleum Jelly is what I used when in college and in the shop. We even will use it when rebuilding and engine... just very very small amounts of it.
