I used a little bit of motor oil when I did it to my old Jeep.

I've always heard people say that petroleum jelly is the best thing to use.

I just used some left-over 5W-20 motor oil from when I did a change on my dad's focus. Worked just great, no issues. Basically anything that lubes it up should work.

Petroleum Jelly is what I used when in college and in the shop. We even will use it when rebuilding and engine... just very very small amounts of it.
