Default Indiana Floor Questions

I am from south of INDY and need to replace the floors in my XJ.. I am trying to find someone who could point me in the right direction for them..
I know i want to replace the whole pan, including hump and the whole rear section.. No need to skimp.. I just hate to pay twice the purchase price for the shipping..

I am willing to drive a ways to save the green.. Anyone with advice chime in??

Thanks

Yeah, discount jeepparts.com is where i was looking first.. I just dont think i can justify spending 160 on the panel and then 200 on shipping.. I could probably just patch the panels as they are and then forget it.. But no offense but i have done that in the past to a few chevy trucks and it always seems that it is Half ***** and seems to want to flex and creak.. I think i may end up just pushing the jeep into the back yard and forget it for a while.. not like its hurting anything... Then buy the parts slowly and fix it properly.. Not like i need it right now anyways..

Thanks for the help.. Keep the thread open and perhaps someone will have a better idea..

I guess all the JY floors in your area would be in the same shape?

Sadly it seems any jeep around here is rusty.. I am originally from the southern tip of Illinois and it is amazing how much less rust there is there compared to here.. The weather doesnt change that much.. Just more salt i presume.. Anyhow, i ran home on lunch and took some pics of the floor to see how bad everyone thinks it is.. Personally i dont deal well with rust.. And i feel it is really bad but then again, that is me..

Here are a few pics.. Sorry for poor quality, from cell phone.

Few more.. By the way, the carpet hasnt been out of this thing.. had to drill pop rivets out of the little hooks in the rear, and the seat bolts were rusted in tight.. Never been loose.. I am assuming that the "Please help me" was a disgruntled factory worker..

The "please help me" is classic. I have heard stories of the Auto Workers leaving tools in door panels and other mistakes but never this.

Yeah,, that is what i thought..

My only problem with the patch method is i want to put an end to the rust.. it seems to me that patching it is just going to lead to more rust..
Like i said.. These are unitbody vehicles.. Making the floors an integral part of the FRAME.. So i hate to do it half *** and then regret it later..

The "please help me" is pretty classic.. I think i shall make that the name of the rig.. LOL

The outside of this thing appears as though the ex girlfriend of the PO may have beat it with a ball bat.. So it is ugly, i thought about having the local high school art dept go all spray paint grafiti on it..

Just to make it some color but white.. LOL

All the areas that arent white are poke thru thin.. They all need to be cut out.. If i did all that there would be no floor left.. I wish i could find a jeep to cut panels from.. I could manage that, i have good tools and good welder..

I just dont wish to pop rivet it down or glue it down.. Want welded in strength..

Oh and a shop vac to remove the floor pans from the frame rail holes LOL

you could prob go a state or two down and get a rust free jeep, check down in the southern states, we dont get snow down here so most all cars are pretty much rust free if not completely

Yeah.. But the premium paid isnt worth it to me.. and i am going to be using this thing to get to and from work in the snow and crap so... It will be right back in the same boat.. I think this thing rusted from the inside out.. The roof has a few rust holes too and i think the gasket between the roof rack and the roof panel is cracked and has been leaking.. I think i will try and patch this one up with pieces from another jeep.. i will find one in a junkyard and cut the patche pieces i need from it.. I know how to remove spot welds without tearing up the panels.. have a spot weld cutter.. Works great.. I will post up pics as i get to work on it.. Right now i have an El Camino i have to get ready for show season so gotta spend time on it.
I am in need of a 4.0 engine though.. If anyone locally has one they need to be read of.. Just to get me by until the LS1 swap gets more pieces.. I need the AX15 adapter from AA and a front accessory drive.. I have the rest..
