Drive slower, don't carry things you don't need, make sure the engine is tuned up, but other than that, there is no amount of money you can spend on mods to get better gas mileage.

Regulary maintenance is your best up grade.Good cap n rotor, plugs n wires, new air and fuel filter.Oil changes. The little things go a long way.

They way I improve my XJ MPG is to ride my motorcycle. Problem is the bike doesn't have a stereo, AC, or cargo capacity. Needless to say XJ gets the most action.

Nothing wrong with talking about cat converters.. Problem comes when discussing the permanent removal of legally mandated parts of the Vehicle.

ANYTHING you can do to improve a cooler air to your intake will improve milage. ANYTHING you can do to improve the airflow to your intake will improve milage. think a less restrictive airfilter. Anything you can do to improve the exhaust will improve your gas milage. think header and exhaust pipes without squished spots. DO NOT REMOVE THE CATAYLITIC CONVERTER unles you are replacing it with a high performance one. Anything you can do to improve the ignition system will improve your gas milage. think platinum plugs good plug wires and maybe an MSD with a performance coil.
Tires are another HUGE place to help milage. Yes those big nobby tires are sure sweet to look at and use on the trails but COST you milage. If you are running an all season tire or a summer tire inflation is key.
Even a flying brick can be made to run more efficently than what the factory sent you.
