Default I'm getting a weak start.

So I go to turn on the Jeep and turn the key to hear the usual cranking. I release and try again. Nada. One more time and I get a vroom then a dive and stall. Last time it starts up nice.

Usually it takes to turns of the key to get it started for some reason.

Not really sure what it could be as I'm not familiar with jeeps in general. Ideas?

Where should I look first? Do I need to go ahead and pull some codes?

Did that actually. Put in an Optima yellowtop the other day. Left my lights on over spring break while I was gone and just figured I'd upgrade my battery. Unfortunately this was not the solution I was hoping for.

clean all your sensors check all grounds.

Next time you start the jeep turn the key to the on position cut it off then try to crank it.

Something to do tomorrow. :-).

Luckily it always eventually cranks. I'm just trying to fix it before it gets worse so I don't have two vehicles sitting around wasting away.

Oh and are those things described in my handy haynes manual or should I perform an extensive search here on the forum?

Haynes manuals are pretty worthless when it comes to troubleshooting. They only describe what you have to do once you find out what is wrong

Could be starter safety switch or starter motor..before both of mine went up my Jeep seemed to crank slower and weaker..They still worked but I guess the grounds were slowly weakening and weren`t getting the amps to go full strength..I ignored this early warning sign and got stuck out in nowhere twice because of it...My Jeep was starting weakly for a long while but since it always started I just figured it was the way it was or old battery, etc..Once I changed to a new starter motor I was amazed at the difference and could see what I had been missing.
