Exclamation im a Fkn idiot....

well all summer while wheeling my jeep would over heat in the bush and would have to add water atleast once a week...

anyways we are now winter and i never changed it out so it was still water, but frozen....anyways i start my truck the other day, let it warm up....i get in drive about 3 blocks....a huge bang like an explosion, a whole lot of steam comming up from the hood like smoke(its -20 out), the truck now sounds wierd like i have a throttle problem but nothing too bad. i manage to make it to where im going(just another few blocks), park the truck but leave it running, i run in and out of my parents house and get back in the jeep...i manage to get around the block and at a stop sign the truck died, had to push it....it would not even turn over, so i went under the hood and removed the starter fuse and tried to start it from there(lil trick my mechanic showed me because my jeep dont always start, but this works every time), so i manage to get the jeep to turn over by hardwiring the starter fuse, but it wont start

anyways, i got it in the drive way and plugged in the heater block. left it for 2 days...came back and tried to start it but no luck it wont turn over. so i try my trick of going through the starter fuse...boom it starts no problem...i let it run for a min, then stop it..i now try the key, no luck...so i try by the starter fuse trick again, starts up no problem...i do this repeatedly for 3 or 4 times to try and get it to start with the key but no luck at all....

so i look under the hood expecting to see a blown rad, but it looks ok, i decide to fill it up with some hot water to melt some ice...right away i see it all pouring on the gound directly from a huge rip in the rubber hose that goes from the motor to the top driver side of the rad.

so i see i need to replace the rubber hose, and filler it up with prestone. but im clueless as to why it wont start with the key, or why it wont even turn over with the key....is it because there is no coolant at all in the motor? will this be fixed once i replace tube and fill with coolant?

Doubt it. Make sure u check ur freeze plugs too btw. Sounds like you need to start checking the wiring in the ignition and starting circuit

Well with no experience here, I am going to roll with common sense. Water expands when it freezes. That is how your upper rad hose busted. There is a chance the water in the block expanded and could of damaged something as well.

Water in block + freezing temps = cracked block most of the time.

Not trying to be a d**k but if you heard an explosion why didnt you shut your truck off right there and pop the hood and see where the coolant was coming from?

You might have got lucky with just a hose if you hadn't kept on pushing it.When something goes boom Confucius say "turn off Jeep no drivy"

You're an electrician? I thought they were generally well educated... guess I was wrong.

Geez, not much sympathy here...........and I agree. Loud noises, loss of coolant, oil pressure etc demands a complete STOP and assessment, not a hopeful wish that you'll make it home or wherever.

I'm sorry. But, why would you even give it a second thought and keep pushing it? I would rather of pushed it home then risk blowing the engine...
Not a smart move!

good chance that your underhood wiring is fried too. water + electricity = bad. hot water + electricity = just as bad. if it was just a couple of blocks, should have walked or pushed... i pushed my jeep 2 miles down dirt roads once because of a blown rad hose... live and learn.

btw, it took me forever to push it...
