Lightbulb idle loop?

it there anyway to make a 4.0 idle loop like a muscle car? or no since timing isnt adjustable and theres no carb (if that matters?)

You mean lope? You can replace the cam with one that has more lift and duration, but it will never sound like a V8 and may kill performance with everything else being stock.

a cam that lopes kills your idle vacuum. Can be a real performance killer if you're in an automatic and use yours at idle, like out in the rocks. The engine really needs built for it.

Sure, it's all in the cam shaft (bump stick) profile. Ignition timing and carb have little effect. Probably have some good books at the local library that will make u a profile (cam) PhD.

U guys must be half dead and all wussied out.....why not lumpy lump an XJ?????????.......'cause it can be. truckntractorhick is on to something and I hope he sees this video and perseus it. There ain't no V8 out there that sounds any better than this inline 6 cyl.

If this bad boy 6 don't raise some goose bumps, u must be a girlie-man. LOL, LOL

Putting a lumpy cam in a stock 4.0 just for the lopey idle is a dumb idea. Putting a lumpy cam in a modified 4.0 with higher compression, stroked, and able to breath better is a good idea. That engine in the video is a Cheby by the way.

It can definitely be done. U gotta have enough vacuum to run the power brakes, hvac controls, etc. but that's easy to do. Since u have a stick, no hi-stall converter needed. Heck, anybody can drive an XJ thru a mud puddle but makin' one humpity thump, thumpity bump.......now that would turn some heads.

Like I posted earlier, u need to go to the library, check out an "engine building" book or 2. U've got to have a strong understanding of internal combustion engines.....what makes them tick. Understanding how a camshaft converts motion, it's mathematics and how it can change an engine from mild to wild is also very important to understand. I would also strongly recommend a factory shop/service manual for your year model XJ and I'm NOT talking about a Haynes or Chilton's. To make an XJ 4.0L sound like the I6 in the video will probably take a custom grind but hey, those are done by the thousands every day (just not to XJs).

I just watched the video again....geeez, that puppy sounds sahweeeet.

Lots of reading/info available on how to correctly do a 4.0L stroker motor also. Unless u have the money to regularly buy Berkshire-Hathaway shares, learning and reading up on everything u can (engine building, etc.) will save u time, frustration and big bucks.
