ideas for a anti theft
Well there has been a rash of xj's stolen in my area so anyone have a good idea for an easy disable switch i can wire in. something not that is obvious. i was thinking of cutting the starter wire and running a switch. Has anyone done this?

Our family vehicles used to always have a toggle switch hidden under the dash connected to the ignition wire. I don't think that is the most effective approach though - I heard thieves look for it.
I like your idea of putting a switch on the starter. I think that's the best place to put it. What about using a battery switch, like this, under the hood somewhere (behind the PDC, perhaps, or off of the firewall):
There are dozens of different styles of switches so you could find other styles as well. You should be careful about routing the wires in a not-obvious way so thieves don't see right away what you did and just flip the switch. If you really want, some options have keys:

Also, disconnecting the battery (negative terminal) might be a bit of a deterrent. That's what most of these switches are designed for to begin with.
Some other ideas here. Summarizes some of my thoughts pretty well.

My family car growing up had a more elegant version of this (the trucks all had the toggle switches, my mom's car got something like this)
IMO this is a little fancy for an XJ, and I don't know if it's reliable. Wouldn't want it to stop functioning one morning...

Pull the coil wire off of the distributor, pull the asd relay, or disconnect the neutral safety switch if it's an auto.

A friend of mine had a fuel cutoff VALVE under the seat in his Corvette. He found it 10 feet from where he parked it on several occasions. Doing this with fuel injection, you wouldn't even get it started.

I thought Canadians were super polite? Are these American thieves jumping the border? (In which case I am NOT paying for a Canadian border wall!!!!)
Also, I would completely "third" the "buy a gun" option, but again, can you even do that in Canada anymore?
Also again - a "rash of XJ thefts"?!? Is Canada hoarding a bunch of XJ's and now thieves are desperate to steal 20 year old vehicles?
I'm being facetious of course -- I am one of the 3 guys in my state that are pro-2A and certainly advocate self defense and defense of property to the fullest. However I think a clever cut-off switch should be good. I have to think these thieves are NOT professionals since professionals are typically looking to chop the stolen vehicle and sell off the expensive parts (which the XJ is definitely NOT full of expensive parts), so it's probably desperate addicts or foolish young people. Therefore I would think that a cutoff switch that is well done is probably sufficient.
You could always install an aftermarket alarm system as well.

Same idea to prime oil on a build or turbo. Pull the fuel pump fuse and crank. It won't start and you keep your radio presets. The fuel pump circuit passes right by the driver seat. Snag it and put a switch somewhere.

Thanks for the good and funny ideas!!!! Well as a Canadian i can get gun just not carry it everywhere. They steal the jeeps cause most of us have upgraded bumpers so they can use it to smash and grab. had a thought since my truck is an auto wire it in to the e brake switch.
