Default ID Valve Cover Parts

So I have a ton of oil that has leaked out of my valve cover gasket over the years and has covered the engine block area and figured I should finally get around to replacing the valve cover gasket. There is also a healthy covering all over the top of the valve cover and figure this is leaking from those two tubes attached to the top of the valve cover.

Can someone tell me what those parts are and where I can buy them? I plan to do a full refresh on the valve cover area and want to replace all of the parts including new hoses/tubes (front and rear).

Here is a photo of the valve cover area that I borrowed from another posters post.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

They're CCV elbows. Any parts store will have them. Their computer may call them valves, but, they're not; ignore it.

If the rubber hoses are brittle/broke, replace with rubber hose suitable for oil. Inside diameter is all that really matters. Take a piece in if necessary.

Replace the grommets on the cover.

Torque the valve cover bolts to spec. Very important.

Good luck!

You're welcome. You got this!

Also, I'd recommend removing the elbows and grommets after you pull the valve cover off. If they're old and brittle they're probably going to break. Better that any broken pieces fall on the ground or bench than on the head.

You can/should be able to find those CCVs at the parts store in the HELP! section. If not, just ask the guy or gal at the counter.

Rear CCV - Dorman 47057 (grey)
Front CCV - Dorman 47079 (black)
Gromment - Dorman 42344

My parts store kept ordering the wrong/grey 90 degree elbow for the front breather. Got fedup and took a drill and dremmel to the third one that I received. Worked great, inside was actually a bit larger ! More air, plus the colors match !!! Torque is 55in.lb.÷12=4.58ft.lb. Be careful, new cheesy bolt grommets that came with the Fel-Pro sucked !!! Some came to torque just fine, next one would pull the bolt through the grommets!!! I actually had to use flat washers on top of the grommets on several. Will be looking for a better substitute!!!

The grommets that come with the Felpro gasket work as intended, IF the factory torque limiters/washers/spacers are reused. Without them, the bolts will/can pull thru them. Sadly, Felpro does not include them, only the grommets. Only 55in. lbs sounds a bit low, but i stopped short of the factory recommended torque also so i shouldnt talk. The FSM for my 97 calls for 85in. lbs., but i stopped at 60. Keep an eye on the ones with standard washers.

I assumed that they came with the new gasket. That's what it showed in the photo. I called Advance to see if they had sent the wrong set. They said that nobody made them anymore. Sadly, garbage day was today, they're gone !!! Looked pretty trashed anyway, so I removed them. Wonder where I can get new ones? Would really like to get them back in. No leaks,,,, yet.

Felpro VS50458R? Thats what i bought. Gasket and all 15 grommets. If the grommets were missing then someone opened the box and took them, or it was a packaging error. The only things not included are the metal spacers. You have to reuse your old ones. All of mine were accounted for and just needed a couple passes with a wire brush to clean them up. I dont know where to get new ones if yours are gone. I doubt the dealer would still have them. Even if they did, i dont know the part number. A parts yard is probably your best bet. Or if anyone here has extras.

You can find the grommets easy. Everywhere on ebay.

The old ones were fried, I removed them and ordered new ones on eBay, $1.25ea !!! The P.O. had tried to tighten them up and were pretty well chewed half them up. So that will take care of that. I assumed that the new grommets were the same as the torque spacers! I removed the cover and stripped the old ones. I had also ordered new PCV and breather grommets with new elbows and rubber to the air box. Was waiting for the parts to come in and chucked the old ones day before trash pickup ! Didn't realize that they were different till I opened the gasket box to finish after I finally got the other parts in !!! Thanks for your help !!!

Well now you know, Mr. Mechanic! Always keep the old parts to compare the new parts to. Especially gaskets! For the new gasket, I like the Victor Reinz. It's a sandwich of steel and neoprene that can be reused many times as long as you don't use sealer on it.

Check O'Reilly auto parts self help section for the Dorman parts. If you have trouble finding the front elbow, purchase an extra rear and drill a 3/8th hole in it.

That's exactly what I ended up doing ! After Advance had ordered the wrong part three times, I got fed up with it and broke out a 3/8 drill bit and the Dremmel with a small stone. I did save the old one to compare. They kept ordering the grey PCV for the rear grommet. I opened that dude up and polished the inside with some rouge and a small buffing wheel. It ended up great ! Now they match in color, almost exactly as the old one, maybe just a tad bigger, not much.
