Default Iac valve questions??

So I cleaned out my IAC valve this weekend and now when i crank my xj the rpms shoot up around 2000-2500 and back down to around 1000. Driving down the road things are great but when i let off the gas the rpm jumps to around 1500 and is immediately back down to 1000 and stays there, give it more gas and let off same thing happens. Is there an adjustment i need to do or did i do something wrong???

It sounds like you may have a vacuum leak.

Maybe it seems kinda odd though as it didn't do this prior to cleaning the IAC.

It does sound like a vacuum leak. Is the rubber o-ring gasket damaged? If the IAC is the only thing you messed with, I'd check that o-ring. Have you tested the IAC to see if it is defective?

I have not checked to see if it is defective...how do I do that? And for the o-ring it looked to be in good shape. I did clean the inside of the throttle body with some carb and choke cleaner would this affect it?

Did you mess with the IAC "pintle" when you were cleaning it? That can lead to an IAC that doesn't work correctly.

That might be your problem. The pintle is very fragile and is best left intact when cleaning the IAC.

I'd consider replacing your IAC. With a Mopar unit purchased from Jeep.

What is the worse that can happen if I wait awhile to change it? Can it cause major problems?
