Default Brake fluid?

My 1999 Cherokee has been sitting for about 5 months because of health issues. The fluid level is way low could it be a leak or caused by it sitting for so long? Also have a ford 8.8 rear axle with disk brakes. Thanks for your help.

is there wet spots on the inside of your rims from leaking fluid? I know that with disc brakes as your calipers take up the space from the pads wearing out your fluid goes down slightly.
