Greetings. I'm working on a 95 XJ project. Attached is a photo of the IAC. I recently cleaned it and the throttle body. RPM is fine at driving speeds, idle is inconsistent and bogged down. Does this IAC need replaced, or simply adjusted. I know its not new.
The issue I had with the original IAC was a loss of cold start high idle. Cleaned both the t/b and IAC. Fixed the issue for about a month. Replaced the IAC and all has been good since. Here is a way to test the IAC I found years back. Worked on my '96.
Connections on the IAC: A B C D A to D = 40 to 80 ohms B to C = 40 to 80 ohms B to A = open C to D = open

Super informative. Thank you fine reply. I will give her a test. Any advice on purchasing a new IAC? Brand Ect? I see the price range is fairly wide. Thank you
Yes. That pintle is attached to a motor and can be damaged easily, even if you are too rough when cleaning it. I cleaned mine by holding the pintle and shank between my fingers while using a toothbrush and brake cleaner to scrub on it. My fingers were sore from the brush, but I didn't break it.
If i remember there should be a large o-ring where the mounting base meets the cylinder. Also you need to clean the seat cone inside the throttle body if its rough or dirty in there the iac will not adjust properly
I've got Berryman's carb dip in a gallon can here. Stuff works wonders. I took the IAC housing off the throttle body and droped it in that carb dip for 30 minutes and it came out squeaky clean.
Funny story: as a boy, my dad and I rebuilt a 57 Ford 292 in our garage. He got some parts cleaner from the Navy that worked wonderful for cleaning pistons. I made the mistake of leaving one soaking in it overnight and in the morning it was dull gray! My dad didn't trust it and had to buy a new piston and was kind of annoyed with me. Sorry Dad!
