IAC PROBLEMS. Replaced and now won't idle.
Hello everyone,
I just joined Cherokee Forum today, and I am in need of help from other users...
I have a 1988 XJ with a 4.0L I6 and automatic transmission
So the other day I decided I would check my IAC valve because I wanted to make sure it wasn't dirty, and it happened to be clean. So I re-installed it. The engine wouldn't idle after this. It would just raise the rpm's upon startup, and then die. The engine ran just fine before I removed the IAC. I figured I must have broken the IAC somehow, so I bought a new one. Once the new one came in, I installed it and started up the engine. The engine ran for about 30 seconds and the idle was relatively normal, and then the engine suddenly died. Since then, it is doing the same thing it did when I re-installed the original IAC. I'm trying to leave town tomorrow for a convention, and really need some help. I have a reliable mechanic, but he won't be able to look at it any time soon.

You need to prep us what you’re talking about. Why would you just pull out the IAC, Just to see if it was clean? Obviously having issues. But if it was running better before you replace the IAC just fill in the blanks please. I have been working on mine all day today with no success at this point.
