I've NEVER had an idle problem w/ my baby doll, and just got it back from my mechanic yesterday. He gave it back after letting me know of the IAC/idle problem. Upon ignition it starts but requires throttling of the gas to keep it idling without stalling out. though when in drive, it is just fine, and doesn't stall.
very confused about this because 1. i've never had an idle problem, and 2. its annoying to sit for 5+ minutes w/ my foot on the gas pedal to keep it at 1700-2300rpm
any help on this?

Replace the Idle Air Control, Check the Crankshaft Positioning Sensor located on the bell housing with a Digital Multi Meter, Set it for the highest Ohm reading, it should read ---- or Infinite.

IAC = idle air controller - basically a sensor/valve to replace
DMM = digital multimeter
CPS = crankshaft position sensor
I don't believe a bad cps would cause an idle problem however...
are you saying it was fine when you gave it to the mechanic, and he returned it with this problem? If so he should fix it. Or did you just give it to him to troubleshoot? I'm surprised he didn't just replace it - it's like a 10 minute job at most

Its a stalling problem, it could be the IAC or CPS, as well as many other things. CPS and IAC control fuel/air at idle, very well could be either. Could even be the MAP sensor or a vac leak.

That is exactly what I was thinking, just didnt want to say it.
You would be surprised how many people come in shop with their vehicles telling us how it just got out of another shop and had X problem. We usually find it to be something the previous mechanic left unhooked or sabotaged. Extra money or stupidity.

had also posted on JeepForum and got a reply w/ a great write-up for cleaning the TB, and IAC...........had just finished cleaning the electrical connections 2 hrs previous to that also........i'm going to check the lines for vacuum leaks tomorr........
my mechanic didn't "leave it" i had already spent a Grand on repairs before picking it up and told him to not do it, cause i knew i could.......figure i'd save an extra 50-100bucks on labor...........
thanks again guys........
