i never did a serpine tine belt change help
I just so happen to have a 1990 with AC, here are a couple of photos of the power steering pump adjuster.
The bolt in the middle cinches the adjuster in place, the bolt on the right end of the slot is the adjustment bolt. unclock, unscrew (loosen).
These were of course taken with the grill and radiator removed.
Hope this helps.

So i have my friends cherokee that i am trying to get the squealing to go away, and i have just replaced the belt. Now, after replacing the belt, when i idle the car and turn on the AC on it does not squeal like it did before, but it chirps in timed intervals. I can watch the logo on the belt pass the same spot everytime it chirps.
So my question is, is this only a tightening issue, as i dont have the "kricket" to tighten the belt correctly. I can press the belt in about 1/4 to 3/8ths in.
Another thing i noticed is that the belt became very hot. and this was specifically at the portion of the belt that passes the crank. the engine was cold before i replaced the belt, so i am not sure if this is normal engine temperature heating up the belt.
any insight is appreciated.

well i take some of what i said above back. now i cant drive it without it squealing, so i am hoping that i have it too tight or too loose. i guess either way it could cause bad bearings to be more audible. tomorrow i will check the tension, what should it be using the tool? it is a 99 cherokee with a V6 engine.
thanks
thanks
If it's a 99, it's got the straight six, not a V6 by the way. Anyways, I don't have the FSM, but the Haynes manual lists 140-160 lbs for a used belt, or 180-200 for a new one. If you've got the Krikit II, just follow the directions. Also, when you've got the belt off, check to see if the pulleys rotate freely, just in case. I learned I had a bad water pump AND power steering pump last week (killed with too much belt tension, I suspect). Hope that helps.
ya it is an inline 6, was tired and put v6 i guess. anywho, so tonight i will buy a kricket and take the belt off, if it still squeals. check each component. and hopefully at least get it to not squeal for normal driving with or without the ac on. my friend is on vacation and she has no idea that i cleaned her car, put a full tank in it, changed the oil and now was trying to fix the AC/ squealing. so if something expensive is shot, i at least want to get it back to regular driving.
i will let you know what i find. btw she comes back on friday.
