Default I need the aluminum housing that is inside the steering column for an 89 XJ Laredo

I am trying to find a replacement. the aluminum housing is cracked and keeps getting looser. any suggestions how/where to get one cheap in decent condition? Local parts stores don't have them, and neither do any of the local junk yards.

You didn't say whether its a tilt or non tilt, 2 different animals. My '90 non tilt that I converted to wiper delay switch was hard to find parts for, the tilt version must have been more popular. When I had mine apart inside housing are oem part numbers that might help your search. Search internet for gm saginaw column, that should get you down the right path. Time wise, a wrecking yard column will save a ton of time stripping the old one down.

Here is a write up on a tilt version just in case you need it for re assembly.

when you say, it's easier to replace the whole column... can you elaborate on that a little?

Sorry didn't even notice file size. Few years back they ran a fiber optic cable down the road. Went from less than 1mb to 30/30mb for the same price. Remember the days when 1 mb was unheard of, 30 minutes to download a pic.

Me personally, I would get the part and rebuild for those prices, I like a challenge. Show us what exact part your looking for.
