Only for 2 weeks after I first got it. Then I replaced the damaged factory e-fan and after that it never went on on its own. When city driving once it starts to go up I kick on the fan and it fits down to just below 210 and I shut it off and it hangs there for a good amount of time and it will slowly creep back up and I kick the fan on when it does.

To the 3/4 mark I try to catch it a little before that. I tested it when I installed the fan and it didn't go on on its own. I let it go as far as I thought safe I even switched on the a/c and it didn't go on. I installed the switch for that purpose. At first I thought it was a bad relay so I swapped a couple and that wasn't it. Also if there was no relay than the fan would not go on any way correct?

I realize that I'm being a PITA and I'm sorry for that. But this cooling system is the most annoying thing about my Xj period. It was a problem day 1 when I bought it and its only now that it is under control enough that I can drive the jeep with out worrying about it. I just want to jump in my Xj and drive it with our having to glance at my temp every so often.

3/4 mark is 235F and efan should be on by 218F. There are both a efan relay AND 40A efan fuse in the fuse box/PDC located on the passenger inner fender. Also, the efan should come on when the motor is running AND the electrical connector on the t-stat cover is pulled (fan-on factory default). Pulling that plug will also set CEL. If the temp sensor in the t-stat cover, the plug, the relay, the fuse are all good, check wires between the fuse box and fan including the plug/connector at the fan.

You know you drive an xj when you look at the temp gauge more than the road. But i was plagued with an xj than ran hot for years no matter what i did. I just recently resolved it by installing a hi-flow water pump, a hi-flow 195 thermostat, and a 3 core radiator from radiator barn. give it a good flush before you install it all, run 60% water 40% antifreeze, and purge the system of air really well and it should solve any overheating issue you have
