I know there ware a million out there: XJ running too hot
Ok So i will jsut dive in to the meet and potatoes:
Xj has been running too hot and i have to use the aux fan, I have it on a switch for when i want it on, to bring the temp down fast enough. I just replaced the radiator and it was working great idling in the driveway for 20 minuets. As soon as i started driving heat started to creep up. So i am going to take a look at my clutch fan because that may have something to do with it and also, now please go easy on me for this, i put the wrong thermostat in without knowing it. The guy at the parts store gave me a 160 T-stat and ididnt know it till i was going thru my recepts. Now is running this low a t-stat part of what is causing my problems?

Only way a t-stat will cause overheating is if it remains closed. The t-stat does one thing.....control minimum coolant temp. All of the other cooling system components, their condition, along with ambient temp and driving conditions determine max coolant temp.
Usually, overheating on most any vehicle is due to owner neglect.

This is with my reman engine, i only have 125 miles on it because i dont want to overheat it. I installed an aftermarket aux fan but it is not exactly a perfect fit. I am working on getting an oe style aux fan. The cooling shroud is brand new, the water pump is brand new, thermostat housing is new, heater control valve is new, serp belt is new. The only parts that are not new are the hoses. I have an aftermarket a/c condenser installed but it is not hooked up to anything as of yet, also i have an aux, tranny cooler.

When you filled the coolant after the new radiator did you "burp" the system? That's a small possibility if you missed that step it will cause temps to rise as the air pocket moves around.

Yep, as many times and all the info I've post in overheating threads, it's hard to believe that a seasoned member wouldn't use "search" and become an expert on the XJ cooling system, it's faults, fixes and how a properly functioning cooling system works.......huh.

I've tried search before every thread I post but it comes out with everything but what I'm looking for. There should be a sticky for the most common systems like cooling, ignition, and I can't think of the other one with tons of threads.
