Default I Have a HOLE!!!!

I was out detaling my 89 Waggy today and when I got under the back seat by the jack...the floor was soaked!!! After some investigation I think I found the culpret, I have one spot of rot around a small crossmember that the front seat bolt to on the passenger side.
Im unfortunately not going to have the funds or the time to remove the front seats, pull the carpet and weld in a new patch for quite some time.

So heres the question : If I can get it to dry out do you think Hi-Temp (its above the Cat) RTV would hold for a while? Has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks

Get some POR15 to paint over the rust. It will keep it from rusting any more if you follow the directions.

POR doesnt fill the holes... thats what hes asking... and i watched a build thread where he used POR under his cherokee TWICE and both times it peeled off... even following the directions to a T... so id be nervous about that stuff...

leave the hole alone... your not getting all this water from under your jeep unless your sinking it in a river... it coming from somewhere else and rotting away the floor where its draining through this hole... find the leak and THEN fix the hole when you get the money... dont put anything on it as its not going to make it better and only worse... and a pain when you are able to patch...

yeah... he did... you can ask him if you like... he is a vendor here and has a build that is probly the best ive seen on here ever... endlassmntfab or something like that... project tech snob... anyone who will literally strip the entire bottom of there cherokee to bare metal TWICE in my opinion has way more patience then me and i have no doubt he followed the instuctions to a T...

Well Im not running any rivers so I guess Ill start looking for another leak. Ive been told that this could be a symptom of a leaking winsheild or bad heater core.
I guess thats possible if the water is going under the carpet all the way from the front, it just seems odd that nothnig else seems to be getting wet.

I had the same problem, only no hole. There was a ton of water under the back seat. I soaked it up with rags and stuck a fan on it and it...it dried out well. Also my cargo area was soaked, so i removed the carpet expecting it to look like swiss cheese. Still no hole. Someone on another post said it could be coming from the roof rack. I do have a crinkle in the seal on the cargo door. I cant imagine that much water is coming in from there though. I still haven't fixed it.

there are a ton of threads about water getting on the passenger side... there is one where people posted nothing but where there water is coming from... hood hinge seal... radio antenna seal... windshield... door seal... heater core... a seal thats inside and under the cowl that nobody can seem to figure out how to get to easily and repair... many different things... best thing to do is pull the seat... flip the carpet over to the drivers side... and grab the water hose... youll find your problem...

I agree with finding the leak and worrying about the hole later. My truck has had very large holes for a long time and I haven't had any serious issues. Unless its near a seat mount and not bigger than a baseball you'll be fine for a few months.

common sence will determine how long you have... rust holes dont happen over night... but one little hole isnt going to hurt nothin... there a pic on here somewhere where it looks like the whole floor is rotted out... and he was still driving it around... i dont even see how the seats were still attached... lol...

it sounds like I have that same hole. I got my jeep in the end of winter and I havent noticed any water coming in. we'll see about this winter. I found the hole in my jeep when I took the carpet out of the rear seating area because it was nasty. I think the previous owner had dogs that they took to the beach and then let them jump in the back with out drying them off. the entire back seat is trash now. I'm planning to pull the headliner and the rest of the carpet next. I think once all the interior is out, im gona put the hose on her and see if I can find any leaks.

Why do I look for punishment?

Preventativ Maintenance is what we call it in aviation.. between the pas side leaks and the hot cat... it makes for a very common rust hole...
