Default I got religion today... and did an oil change with Rotella T6

A while back I printed out and read Salad's extensive oil write-up.

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/rot...essing-188168/

I am convinced about Rotella T6

And today it was oil change day. So I switched to Rotella T6.

Hopefully I can run another 240K miles without the engine sounding like a box of rocks.

Don't run a fram filter and it should last for a long while.

I'm going to use the wix 51515 and rotella t6 5w-40 for my next oil change. Just to make sure, with the Wix filter I'm going to need 6 Liters of oil, right?

6 quarts (not liters). Plus, an extra quart to top it off after checking the oil level. The Wix 51515/NAPA Gold 1515 will suck up a bit of oil, but not another quart.

How many miles of this engine? If you have been using dino oil all along then switching to synthetic oil may cause oil leaks (think RMS). It also may cause your engine to be more noisy.

Currently 240K miles. Bought it two years ago at 194K.
Has always had slight cold running clatter. Tappets or whatever.
I fixed all the oil leaks a while back. Mainly oil was leaking out the distributor boss (fixed with another distributor, new gasket, and HondaBond sealant), the rocker cover gasket, (Installed new gasket. The expensive type), and the filter adapter. (Fixed that by remove and eliminate).

So if oil starts leaking again, I will blame it on the Rotella. CCKen said so.

As far as engine noise...well I always just put on a louder muffler to cure it.

Not to thread-hijack, but I've been using the K&N wrench-off filter, and it seems to be working pretty well for me, oil is very clean, anyone else have any experience with these?

All I've have used on my 4.0 is the K&N. Mainly because it's easy to get off. Only caution is that to remember not to install with a wrench. You will over tighten it.....

Yeah I just like the ability to remove it with a hex wrench as opposed to that ridiculous strap wrench, much easier and don't have to go burn $10 on a tool that's only good for one job. I still install them by hand after wetting the threads and o-ring with a little used oil.
