I bought a 99 XJ, lots of questions...
Heya!
Sorry it took so long, the camera I used isn't mine and won't hook to my computer, so I had to wait to get the pics to my PB account... Blah, blah, blah...
Who wants to hear excuses?
Pics!
Here's the 1999 Skidplate I have. Notice the curved front (at bottom of pic), and the full length mounting surface at each side. What you can't see is that the skid does a nice job of 'cupping' the tank, (
) giving it good protection at the very back (top of photo) while still allowing some access to the front of the tank. Also notice the lack of any cut-outs for the tank straps.

Now, here's a lousy picture of the skid from my old 1994 XJ...

Yeah, it sucks. It's full of parts, notably a front skidplate, a t-case skidplate, and other bits and pieces. I could've yanked the parts out, but it was hot, I was darn tired and felt lousy, and I'm lazy.
The flash lights everything up, and playing with the brightness and contrast still doesn't give a solid indication of the sides and oddities of this skid. (plus, the shed is crammed full of crap, so it's hard to tell what's what and what ends where.) I played around with an editing thingie from PB, and I hope this will give you a better idea of the shape of this skid.

Notice the front & back have cut-outs for the fuel tank straps? There's also a cut-out on the passenger side (I think that's the passenger side, it's been darn near 8 years since I pulled the skidplate...) for the exhaust mount, while the 1999 passenger side exhaust hanger actually bolts through the skidplate into a nut-strip in the passenger side framerail. The 1994 skid seems shallower, and leaves a little more tank exposed at the front and rear.
I hope this helps you, and I hope the $25 skidplate will work for your Jeep. I know that tank skidplate saved my bacon a LOT on my 1999 XJ. (The rear springs were shot all to heck, and I was running 235/75/25 snow tires on a fairly rutted and pot-holed road. *L*)

I bought the skid plate...
Happens to be the wrong one.
I traded a newish Sony radio for it, he made out like a bandit.
It's up for sale.. $25 plus shipping costs.
Or come and get it for $25, located in 29710

Hey, on the plus side, those skidplates are hard to find all around, you should be able to sell it quick!
BTW: Nice job on the valve cover gasket. I can see those durn plug wires now! *L* A lot of folks think your particular configuration of 1999 XJ is pretty much the best of the breed. All of the best parts, and you skipped the dreaded 0331 head. And the low-pinion Dana 30.
Plus, those heater hoses are routed nicely.
Forget about it. Your XJ is spiffier than mine and I'm jealous...

LOL, but the good thing is That I'd happily TRADE for one that fits
As for it being spiffy... if you could only see all the imperfections lol
And one more simple question, On the head, mid center, under the valve cover it has "630" in raised lettering. I assume I'm safe from the "0331" head issues? any other issues with the "630" ?
thanks for the compliments!

Imperfections? They're beauty marks!
like Claudia Schiffr (SP?)'s mole.
From what I've read, the o630 cylinder head seems to be as solid as they come. No defects, or notorious behavior to speak of...

Luckily If I hold the yak in my hand above my head I can easily place it on the roof.
it's about 50-55lbs.
but seriously I'm confused with all the choices for yak mounting options, Just secure and affordable.
