Default I bought a 99 XJ, lots of questions...

Hi!
I think I did my homework correctly and might have scored very high, but I need your help to determine how I did.

And then there are a lot of questions some now and some later, so I'll just keep asking them in this thread as they come up. AND I'll keep updating as things progress.

I bought it on July 3rd, 2012 (yesterday!)
Drove 248 miles without a single problem in 98 deg heat, oh I did get too cold- the a/c kicks butt!

The purchase:
1999 Cherokee Classic.
Build date- 02/99 (I tried to avoid the 0331 head, hopefully I did.)
Lived all of it's life in SC and GA= no rust.
153,ooo miles
I'm the third owner, first person had it for 3 years- I guess they leased it.
Second guy had it til yesterday.
never been smoked in til yesterday lol
has:
Chrysler 8.25 rear.
NP-231 transfer case.
no ABS.
factory tow package.
factory alloy wheels.
all power options but seats.
cruise control.
A/C
factory fog lights/switch.
As for the options and condition, I'll the video/pictures show you.
I'll add the video when it's down loading.
here are a few pictures for now:

And here is the video, it's long... http://youtu.be/fy0s_Lho8OM

I have plans for this if you think it's worth the effort and money.
OME 4 inch lift, 31x10.5 BGF A/T, roof rack, bumpers, sliders and lights I like lights- lots of them

OK, some questions.
A/C kicks from vents to defogger and back while driving, I did read about a vacuum line fix for it. but I don't see the hose, can you show/tell me where to look?

The rear hatch needs a new strut to hold it open, the PO put one in recently but it snapped while he was showing me the XJ... go figure. Do I just get one at autozone or is there a better one and from where?

Fog light switch does not light up or the lights themselves, I'll check the fuses first but is there a common problem with them?

It's got what I was told and what looks like the factory tow package. does that meen I have the 3.55 LSD rear? I'm pretty sure it has a LSD because it will leave two tire burns from power braking. How can I verify the ratio?

There's a tag on one of the diff cover bolts that will tell you what gears are in it. If you jack up the rear and spin one wheel, if it has an LSD, they will both spin the same direction.

I knew about spinning the wheels, I didn't know there might be a tag. Thanks!

So, are you just trying to rub our noses in the fact you found a super clean XJ? Nice find. As far as the A/C vent problem, there is a vacuum reservoir mounted to the inside of the passenger side of the front bumper. make sure the vacuum lines are securely attatched and look at the line around the battery area for any signs of battery acid damage to the black plastic line. There is also a smaller vacuum hose near the firewall on the passenger side that is the source for the HVAC vacuum motors. take a look at that one as well. www.rockauto.com has the best deals on the rear hatch struts, replace them in pairs. Remove the center stack bezel and see if the fog light switch in plugged in, it could have been forgotten when the stereo was installed.

NO!
actually wait til my video loads up (still an hour more up time). it's not super clean... it does have some quarter panel damage.
Which is how I could afford it.

OK I'll check for acid damage, I didn't notice any yesterday...

Thanks for the vacuum line info, headed outside right now

On the scanguage she runs 205 to 220 water temps, I know they run on the hot side.
BUT what is too hot and when should I pull over and cool it off?

Right now you are running fine. Mine stays between 210 an 212 unless I sit in traffic it may go up to about 215.

Your temp should be more accurate because you do have the scanguage and most including me just go by the stock dash gauge.
BTW, It is a pretty nice looking rig. You should really enjoy it as long as you keep up the maintenance.

Too pretty to lift,IMO,wait 'till the new wears off so you aren't scared to "enjoy" it like you should.I waited 2 years to lift mine, about a year & 9 months too long.
Clean is not the word.
