Default HP DANA30 or LP DANA30

I was just wondering how i know if i have a HP dana30 or a LP dana30?

Also what can i get an HP dana 30 out of?

older xjs the pinion is high newer is lower

when you look are looking at a dana30 low and high pinion is there a difference in the way they look

if you are tlaking about your 01 cherokee you have a low pinion.

just look at the front axle. If the pinion (where the drive shaft bolts on) is entering above the center line of the pumpkin, its a high pinion. But like mentioned above, if its a 2001 xj, its a low pinion (standard cut gears)

'00 to '01 they switched to lowpinion fronts. All earlier models had high pinions.

any benefits of the low pinion i know theyare more prone to vibrations at taller heights but why would they chage it in the last 2 years of the XJ?

The low Pinion is weaker. The HP 30 is as strong as a LP D44 when it comes to ring gear strength....

this is true. Think about how the pinion is riding on the drive side of the ring gear instead of the coast side. mostly its because the housing won't flex like the lp's will. When a housing flexes, ring gears break.

they just switched because they are retarded. and wanted it to have the same axle as the tj. i dont know why jeep ever mad LP front axles. probably to keep cost down or something stupid
