Or a separate eq to control everything on top of that. My pioneer eq was stolen along with my 4 channel fosgate amp :-( they didn't get my bass setup though cause it was bolted down good enough to make it difficult. All this in my classic beetle...... got pulled over for that stereo :-)

Yeah, I didn't mention eq. Most decks have a decent one that'll get you by. I think I have a seven band on my premier. haven't had a stereo jacked yet... I did have a xbox 360 and about $900 in paintball gear stolen out of my 96xj when the rear hatch didn't lock. Installed an actuator for the lock and wired that to the remote starter to take care of that lol

Pyle speakers are pretty much regarded as junk, I'd try to find a decent used set from a reputable seller on eBay or a car audio forum if your budget is that low. The Infinity Reference coaxials speakers I mentioned can be had for around $60-65 new online so I'm sure if you found a used set they'd run you maybe $30-40. If you're looking for component speakers there are some good cheap ones out there as well, I believe Phoenix Gold and Cadence make some good inexpensive sets, again maybe check out used stuff, just make sure you buy from someone with a good rep so you know they work properly. I wouldn't bother running components for the rear speaker locations though, coaxials are actually ideal for that.
While we're talking car audio, for those of you that have external amps installed in your XJ, where did you ground them to? I haven't found any really convenient existing bolts to attach a ground cable to, so I figured I'd just drill hole somewhere under the rear seat for one... but maybe I'm overlooking something so I thought I'd ask. I couldn't get my power cable through any of the existing grommets in the firewall so I had to drill a hole for that as well, I think this is the first vehicle I've installed in where I had to do that.

Christmas time, so I'm back on the speaker train again.
But this got me wondering... Why? I ran (4) of the Polk db' coaxials in my old Cherokee I had with a couple 12" Kickers that would rock the house, but I was young(er) then and anything with big boom was awesome.
After reading through the thread again and doing a little of my own research, I'm thinking I'll snag four of the Polk db651s's
Unless there's a reason I should run component Polks up front and these^^ coaxials in the rear?
The only addition I'll make to the sound system (at a later date at best) will be a 10" sub for the cubby in the back and a small amp to power it (or possibly to power the whole system).
Good plan?!

I've heard those Polks are nice. I think you'll be happy with the coaxials front and rear. The advantage of component speakers is that you can place the tweeters higher up than the midrange speakers so that they're closer to & aimed more towords your ears. They usually include more elaborate crossovers that need to be mounted remotely. Nice to have, but a bit more expensive and more work to install. Not needed for rear speaker locations because if anything it's actually best to try and minimize the amount of treble coming from behind you, so having rear speakers with high end separate tweeters would just be a waste.
I've used front components in other cars, but I'm running coaxials front & rear in the Cherokee and have been happy with them so far. Added a nice 12" sub in a sealed box with a good amp, and it sounds great on all types of music. For how simple this system is compared to much fancier installs I've done in other cars, it sounds great. XJ's seem to be easy to get good sound quality in. IMO in our Jeeps coaxial speakers and a single sub & amp will make 99% of people happy, so long as you use decent quality stuff.
