Default How to remove my rear bearing?

I have a 96' Jeep cherokee sport 4.0L 6 cyl

I almost bought my back two rear bearings today but needed to know the bearing and seal size. When I started researching online on how to go about it, I found that it might be a little more difficult then not only the front bearings but in general. If I could get some tips on how to aproach it and the "special" tools I might need, that would be AWSOME! Thanks, George

are you meaning the wheel bearings for the rear axle? if so you will need to find out which rear axle you have, dana 35, chrysler 8.25 or dana 44.

If you post a picture of your rear axle we can tell you what you have.

The tool you will need to change the bearings are a slide hammer, axle bearing removal tool, a 13mm ( i used a 1/2 ) wrench and an 8mm wrench, a tool to pry out the old wheel seals, and either a seal driver kit or a secket beig enough to drive the new wheel seals and bearings in.

you will need to remove the rear diff cover, remove the 8mm bolt holding the center pin, push both axle shafts towards the center of the jeep and slide the c clips off, then remove the axle shafts from the axle housing and pull and replace the seals and bearings.

pretty easy really it just sounds complicated. takes me about 35 minutes do the entire job once the wheels are off and the jeep is on jackstands.
