How To Make A Homeade Immobilizer for your jeep
heres my take on the immobilizer setup and i have found it works the best for me, and the customers who i have done this to havent had any complaints as far as i know.
ok heres the parts list first, all of this can be found at radio shack
-DPDT Relay
-N/C Momentary push button switch (the smaller the better)
-N/O Magnetic Reed Switch
-2 different color LED lights (small ones preferably)
-Few rolls of different color wires 14-16 gauge will be plenty thick
-a small magnet (stronger the better)
-an old car alarm clicker (optional)
The Setup
1. pick a circuit you want to disrupt (fuel pump, ignition, starter, ect.)
2. go ahead and cut that wire
3. find a spot under the dash to mount the reed switch. on an xj you can use the sides of the dash or the cluster bezel or even the center console it doesnt matter as long as its thin plastic. your just trying to find a spot where plastic will be covering the switch so you cant see it, but you can see the plastic its hiding behind.
4. tape the reed switch to the hidden spot you choose
5. now find a place to mount the DPDT relay under your dash, the more hidden, the better.
6. drill a couple holes at the bottom of your dash so you can mount the small LED lights. then mount the lights.
7.pick another spot under the dash to mount the N/C Momentary button switch
8. now wire everything up like the diagram. (the prongs on the relay in the diagram are the same as if you were looking at the bottom of the relay)
9. cover all of your wiring in electrical tape or wire loom to kind of make it look factory
10. now for the alarm clicker, it is just a way to hook your magnet to your keychain and still be pretty inconspicuous. just open up the alarm clicker and take out all of the alarm remote internals, then put your magnet in and close it back up. (if you can find another way to carry a magnet with your keychain then that will work just as good) but dont lose it, you cant start the car without a magnet.
how it works:
if everything is hooked up correctly , you will get in the jeep, hold the magnet over the area where your reed switch is hidden for a second. the magnet will trigger the reed switch and disable the immobilizer. (you only have to hold it there for less than a second) after that you can start the jeep whenever you feel like, and it will keep it disarmed incase someone else needs to drive it. it will stay disabled until you arm it again.
when you want to arm the system you just press the momentary switch once and your jeep will be unable to start.
when your armed the red LED will be on. and when your disarmed the blue Led will be lit.
it is wired this way so that even if the car thief sees the any of the lights or the momentary switch, he wont be able to do anything about it, because messing with those wires still wont allow it to start.

Exactly what I've been looking for...two quick questions:
On the constant 12v power supply, is there somewhere under the dash you suggest tapping into or run a dedicated line from somewhere?
Second, of the items to disable from your experience, what's the preferred?
Thanks for posting this.

My rig has a simulated transmission leak, the puddle of red fluid tells thieves "You won't make it far in this one". From the outside the interior looks like a high mileage 17 year old ZJ laredo, but once you open the door you'll find the highest quality leather and fine woods on the dash, complete with wool carpet and air conditioned seats. Under the hood it looks like an old Jeep 4.0 I6, but in reality it's a V12 with an 8 speed transmission and flappy paddle shifters. The 40" tires are made to look like a set of BigO 235-75R15 A/Ts on stock aluminum wheels.

Fuel pump is a pretty safe item to disable, but I do like cutting out the coil power

I can make a diagram that arms whenever the key is off. But that is also not ideal for everybody. But I can make a diagram to do any kind of setup anyone wants to have. Just ask.
