My cherokee stock is quick. I constantly go through yokes and strap clamps, because of this, i feel i can click off a low 15. If hell freezes ill get a 14 with a insane 4x4 launch like diesel trucks do.
I run a heavy duty clutch, and stock flywheel. 2 door 5 speed. hurst shifter.
How do I launch? 4 grand clutch dump in 4 HI and pray like STI and EVO guys do? I'm running stock mustang wheels and tires for the pass.
I feel ill just **** another driveshaft if i use 2wd. Usually snaps between shifts.
Anyone ever go this route with their XJ? Anyone ever dare try it?
Don't bash for being different. Someones gotta pull a fast time.
Intake, exhaust 2.5 inch from header, flowmaster, Hurst shifter, good driver mod.
its a 96 xj 2 door

If you have a 231 Transfer case you will break either the TC or a drive shaft. You will also be slower in 4wd that 2wd. If you have a 242 TC you could do this in 4FT, still slower than 2HI , but you will get a sorta 4wd launch. If the Diffs are Open you are wasting 50% of your launch torque. Good launch has more to do with the driver, fast time in a 1/4 is about terminal speed.

Great info. It's in need of a u joint upgrade, i figured in 4x4 I probably won't be snapping my rear u joint for once. What are the chances the transfercase will go? If i make 2 passes, and dip into a 14. (like that will happen) Maybe with the carper pulled, passenger seat, driver air bag, rear seat, and flinstoned rusted floors, no washer bottle, no hitch, manual windows, no a/c electric fan, it just may be. Im dying to find out

I do. I built my girl a 95 GT AODE, headers no cats, all bolt ons 3.73s. its the last year of the 5.0. but in the heavier sn95. We raced on the way home, she got me by a car and a half, however, if i powershift, and get a good launch, without breaking something, I could pull through by a fender. Big chance, could be stupid, but i dont use jeep in summer anyway if something breaks. Its a big risk. But a 14.90 in a bolt on cherokee? Tell me that doesnt sound good.

If you're breaking just shaft straps. then, that is your weak link. Do another thing the guys in the big deisel trucks do, get a 3/4 or 1 ton spec rear DS with bigger yokes, U-joints and all. It'll cost you some coin but, any Driveline shop worth a crap should be able to build you one. Keep us posted and let us know what combination gets you into the 14s.

ive done the xj racing thing before. i went this route with 2 different 2wd XJ's and started to with 1 4wd xj. (89 2wd with 4.5 stroker, 90 2wd with 120shot, and 93 4wd with a 75 shot)
imo, i dont think you will get anything below a 15.5 with just a light bolt on xj. i would put a guess around 15.7-16.3.
i got best results by launching around 2000-2500 rpms, dropping at 4k with regular street tires is going to get you nowhere fast. this isnt some honda that you have to rev out to launch.
