Default How do you guys feel about non-mopar ignition coils?

So my 97 has had this vibration/shaking at idle for so long. It's not a rough idle, just shaking, but I have gone through everything to try and find the culprit. I replaced the ignition coil, along distributor, rotor, wires, and plugs. The ignition coil I used was an NGK. It's rather hard to find OEM/Mopar replacements, and I have heard that other performance ignition coils can cause issues. I assumed NGK would be pretty good, but I have heard from two people on various forums that switching to genuine Mopar coils have fixed peoples problem's. What are your guys opinions?

Sounds like you put mixed up your firing order. I would check your sequence and make sure you put them all back on in the right order.

I remember my disappointment at discovering that Accel coils has a poor reputation.

NGK make quality spark plugs but that doesn't mean anything else bearing their name is any good; I'd no more buy one of their coils than, e.g. a Champion filter.

Ordinarily, I'd buy any reputable ignition component brand coil but a few years back I got an el cheapo performance ignition kit (coil, cap, rotor & 8mm silicone wires) & have been very impressed.

I replaced my ignition components because of the vibrations, they were present before replacing everything. I think mixing up firing order would be extremely noticeable, it more or less didn't help the vibrations

NGK makes quality products. I've been using their stuff for over 50 years.

So, it acts exactly the same with a new NGK coil as it did before?
I seriously doubt the coil is an issue if that's the case.

Have you done a compression test?

Any fault codes?
