Question Aftermarket ignition coils

Anyone use an aftermarket ignition coil like Accel or MSD? Are they worth the extra cash or just wasting good old hard earned $$$$. If you have, what make/model did you use? Did you get a noticable increase in torque/HP or gas mileage? I've been seeing a few used ones for around $25 and wondering if its worth the time and money. Put in your .02

Yes! anything that can make a hotter or longer spark is a bonus in my book. Easier starting and better fuel burning resulting in better milage and power. I have years of wrenchng and racing expeience on just about every north american brand of vehicle. And I test these things out myself. I just don't take the word of someone that knows someone that heard it from a friend.
In every case upgrading the ignition system to the best possible parts over stock made a huge improvement.

So would an Accel Super coil be a good choice or something else you would recommend?

or a Mallory. I believe the stock coil is good for 25KV and the Accel is 45KV and up. It's like the difference in using a garden hose to clean all that mud off, or a power washer. Which one would you rather use?

I run the accel coil and i also have the whole accel tune up kit. Its works great have not had any problems. The jeep ran alot better when I put it all on but of course all the old stuff had 108000 miles on it so that affected it somewhat.

For a renix vehicle, a stock replacement coil works the best. Not much of a point to pay more unless you have an aftermarket ign. Even then not necessarily worth the $$$.

And your source for this would be?
Why does he need the aftermarket ignition? The ignition system only tells the coil when to release it's charge. How would that affect how much energy the coil would release?
You just can't jump into a thread and make a statement like that without some back up and a very thorough knowledge of how the systems works and why.
In actual fact it would especially help a renix system. The stock coil is going to be almost 20 years old if it hadn't been replaced before. the older systems ran a much smaller plug gap. With the higher voltage He'd be able to open it up to maybe .045 to ignite more of the fuel mixture.
Again easier starts, better fuel burn = MPG and power.
How can that be a bad thing?
