I was one of the ones that almost punched a hole through my roof. I also almost broke my hand and sent an A/C vent air freshner flying.

it's easier to put back on.

you guys should just punch yourself in the face before you try to remove the handle, it'll soften the blow.

i too have a zj handle on my stocker. gonna put one on the trail rig too.
i grab them all at the wreckers whenever i'm there. they always just give em to me.

not to hijack, but does the button need to come out first? Or can it come out when you pull on the shifter. If it does then how does the button come out?

interesting question requires a detailed answer.
You pull the shifter handle with all the button. To remove the button from the **** you need to slip off the sleeve around the button (chrome or black depending on the model) at that point the button will come out with a spring and a 45° piece that pushes the rod.

Holy crap man. I am guessing these are automatics you are talking about. I can't believe there is not a way that runs less risk of bodily injury. Probably not enough room under it to be able to pound it upwards with a hammer or something.

Use a catcher's face mask during the process maybe? Might hurt your hand but at least you wont bust yourself in the face lol.

Haha, I just had to do this, and I was pretty scared after reading all this. Mine actually came off pretty easy, though. I guess I got lucky.
