I damaged the connector that goes to the idle air control valve, so I bought the one pictured to replace it. I have a few questions. The connector takes four wires, so why does this kit come with four orange and four purple wires? The purple ones are not as thick as the orange ones. I assume the little gold metal clips are crimp connectors. Is that right? If so, is there a special tool to crimp them, or do I just squeeze them with pliers? Do I twist the two bare wires before crimping or just lay them side by side in the clip? Should I maybe twist the wires together, solder the connection, and them put that in the crimp connector? I have some crimp connectors with heat shrink tubing attached that are the right size for these wires. Can I use that instead of the gold clips, and them maybe put the heat shrink tubes from the kit over the connection? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks.
Before you go anywhere, make sure the connector fits your IAC. That one just doesn't look right to me. Placed in the same situation, I would probably go cut one out of a junk jeep in a yard.
And yes, there is a special tool for crimping those sleeves.
If its only the connector that is damaged, remove the wires from it and push them into the new one. The terminals are held in with small barbs in the connector IIRC. Sometimes the terminals have barbs on them. Either way, those barbs need depressed to release them. The trick is finding something small and thin enough to get to them. They arent always easy. With the connector being damaged, you could just crush the remains. Just try not to damage the terminals or wiring. The wiring that comes with replacement connectors doesnt always have to be used. If i were to use the wiring, i would solder and/or use barrel crimps. You dont need a special crimper for those things. Stagger your splices, and dont forget the heatshrink tubing.
These are those barrel crimps im talking about. You can buy them with colored sleeves, too. The sleeves can be cut off if need be.
I also have an issue with the connector and was wondering if the original colored wires need to be in a correct order when conncecting them to the new plug cause I made the mistake of not taking a pic and mixing them up
Yes, they need to go back into the correct positions. What year are we talking about? The connector and wire colors should be shown in the factory service manual.
