How do I bypass my key fob
I have to hit unlock on the key fob in order to start my car. I don’t want to have to do that. How can I just stick my key in the ignition and make my car start?. I don’t care about the factory alarm or unlocking the doors. All I want is to bypass the key fob to make sure I never get stuck not starting. Thanks

I never heard of that one either. It could be an issue with the wiring, or perhaps the board. But thats just a guess. What year XJ? Im too lazy to dig for that stuff.

If your vehicle has the overhead "bubble" for the keyless entry, try removing the cover and then removing the computer card that is the key-less entry module. Don't know if that will work for you or not.

The starter will not engage in till I hit unlock. It’s like the ignition only goes to accessory. The key fully turns to the start position It will not engage the starter until I hit the unlock button.

Same thing happens on my 99. When vehicle is locked with key fob it enables the alarm which triggers this "starter interrupt" feature. If the door is unlocked via key in door lock cylinder then the vehicle will not start until the alarm is disarmed via key fob.
I'm unsure if the alarm system is aftermarket or not. My Chrysler build sheet does not list any alarm features but it could be a dealer installed option.
I just did a quick search and found this install manual for Mopar EVS II security and keyless entry. Perhaps it will be helpful to you. http://starparts.chrysler.com/info/default/k6859319.pdf

Old fart with a wrench
My 2000 XJ had remote keyless entry and no chip key. The receiver for the remote is in the domelight housing. try unplugging it and see if that works to solve your problem. Try it with the window down so you can get in if it doesn't work.

This issue here seems to be "not starting at all" unless.. etc.

Sounds exactly like how the engine immobiliser operates that some of us have here. Only difference is the OP describes not being able to crank at all whereas the engine immobilizer feature makes it start normal, but turns off after 1-2 seconds.
OP, you say 95% of the time. And the other times?
Has it always done this, or has this inability to start occured recently?
