update

installed the fuel pump and now my jeep is back to life

when i pulled out the old fuel pump ( very carefully ) the strainer wasnt attached so i figured its prolly went for a swim in a gas tank.. i didnt feel like fishing for it (dropping the tank ), hope it will be OK in the long run..

i am sooo happy, and thanks to all that helped

Awesome, glad to hear you got it going. I doubt the basket filter will cause much of a problem unless it gets tangled up with the sending unit.
