I think it is a np 231.
if this helps i have a dana 44 rear end.
it is a 87 cherokee Laredo

Its either a 231 or 242 there is a small tag on the back of the case that says which one. But the 242 has two different 4hi's and the 231 only has one 4hi mode.

crawl under your jeep and look at the case. on the left side there's a round tag that will say either 231J or 242J.

If your selector has a fulltime option it is a 242 if not it is a 231. No need to crawl under it.
