A locker isn't out of the question! I have lockers on DDs, just have to learn how to drive.

I've been running 31x10.5x15 Duratracs for about a year now, no problems, never gotten stuck in loose sand or mud in the pine barrens. Haven't had a chance to test them in the snow, but I am confident I won't have a problem. They are pretty quiet on the road, and I have taken my Jeep up to 75-80 with no vibrations. They start out feeling pretty soft, almost mushy, but after 3-4k miles they get more solid.

Have heard nothing but positive things about them.
I have heard VERY good things about this tire. Otherwise my top A/T tire is the Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO, next is Dayton Timberline AT. the Grabber2 At is similar to the BFG but WAY better and cheaper.

You forgot to mention that they suck in the rain/wet conditions.

and as for the balance issue, ive never had an issue and ive installed countless sets on customers vehicles. just use the right weights. its a quality made tire, so it normally doesnt need much weight at all

now, that being said....they suck in the mud, but thats just like any other all-terrain tire.
I have seen too many Out of round. And they are pricey for what they are. I have a used set that were FREE, and they are not very good. Most people I know get maybe 30k mi on them.

The Gen. Grabber2 AT is better and cheaper.

There is a crazy difference between open diff and lsd in snow/ice. Here in Indiana, it can get pretty bad at times. 07 f-150 (lsd rear), never put it in 4wd in 3 yrs during the winter on the road.
I've got a aussie locker in the rear of my XJ and its my Daily driver, i dont even notice it there anymore.

Most people you know? I have 43k miles on my BFG A/T's and still have at least 30-40 percent tread lift left. thats on a 97 XJ with lockers front and rear. 31x10.50 r15. i plan on getting at least 55-60 before replacing them. Its all about keeping up on maintenance, balancing, rotating, hydrating the rubber. I have two friends with same jeep as mine and same locker set up with the general grabber2's and i pass them day and night on the trail. there is one mud spot we go through and everytime they get stuck while i keep on trucking, we switch rides and i cant make it in theirs but they make it in mine. In my opinion the generals are a good A/T tire, but when it comes down to it BFG is a little better.

dont know what to say about what you've "seen"

but most of the customers i have get around 50-60k. and as for being out of round, not on a BFG a/t's.

Its unnecessary?

It really only helps you accelerate when you are at a dead stop, thats about it.

lockers were one of the very first things i looked into; it seemed like it didnt matter how amazing your tires were, if you had all 4 tires, or at least the rear end pushing with full capacity, you were going to more traction... but i now think there is a deff. balance in approaching this issue.

NOTE: i DONT want/need any kind of over aggressive tire; i travel the pavement every day for work, but sometimes my work takes my on a rough mountain road... at this point either for work, or play

now, if i invest the moneys into a set of snow tires AND a set of muddies that are still road worthy, i will be in for way more that just one set of the duras... and as for lockers... its more of a dream for now... if i get these tires and they make a noted improvment, then lockers will come into the picture for real... my buddy with this sick little Defender has 35x950's and ARB's front and rear... he calls it cheating! i kinda liked looking of my buddies tests in school, so... you see where im going with this... and i dont want to cheat off the validictorian (ARBS front/rear) but i do want a passing grade (Detriot/Lockright... and only rear, for now) THANKS AGAIN FOR EVERYONES FEEDBACK!

HUH... MAYBE WE ARE ALL CORRECT IN OUR DISCUSSION OF 4WD AND TIRE WEAR, AND HOW IT EFFECTS WET HANDLING... IT IS ALL FOR THE MOST PART, OPPINION. BALED TIRES SUCK ON ANYTHING AND 4WD WILL IMPROVE YOUR DRIVING FORCE!!! COME ON, PEOPLE... WE ALL DRIVE JEEPS HERE... IDK WHAT THAT MEANS.. BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER..

If you have such a heavy foot that you spin tires around corners, yes, it could help at that point, but if you are roasting tires around damp corners bad enough to need 4wd, you need driving lessons.

Its really not necessary to use 4wd in the rain unless its flooding and there is a significant amount of standing water.

In all reality using 4wd in the rain increases the truck's tendancy to "plow" through corners, or go straight instead of turning, even though the wheels are turned.

I run Firestone Destination M/Ts year round on my DD. They are fantastic - ride comfort is pretty damn good for a mud tire, tread wear is great (45k on my current set), traction in mud snow is fantastic, wet/dry traction very good.

There is a reason why both the M/T and A/T tires are #1 on TireRack.com - they deserve it.
