Sounds like the tire shop you went to put the wrong weights on, that's not BFG's fault. I know on mine, I installed them myself and had to use "long-arm" weights, that way they wont fall off.........

I have them on my ZJ and hate them. They never seem to stay balanced and are kind of noisy. This tire was designed thirty years ago and the age is showing. They still demand a high price though.
Honestly those BFG's are way over priced. Obviouslly anyone who buys them new is going to talk them up, so they dont feel bad and realize they wasted their money. If you want a tire like a BFG A/t, but better, and cheaper, look at the General Grabber AT2. Up here in maine everyone used to use the BFG's to plow with, now we all use the AT2's from general. Either way though, if you plan to wheel it, the AT's arent going to help you. They dont clean out, and dont wrap around objects on the trail which leaves you just spinning. The duratrac is a great tire, but my friend went through a set in 25-30,000 miles, DD street use only. If you dont see the trail much, just go with the Generals. Those goodyear wranglers from walmart are actually not bad either for the price. 550 gets your 4 31's that will get you to the mountain!
if your tight on money get the general grabber at2.
If you want to spend some money get the dura's I got them, haven't had a chance to test them in the snow yet though, but read good things.

and as for the balance issue, ive never had an issue and ive installed countless sets on customers vehicles. just use the right weights. its a quality made tire, so it normally doesnt need much weight at all
now, that being said....they suck in the mud, but thats just like any other all-terrain tire.

my wrangler SR-A's suck. they are happy only on the pavement. this is becoming an issue. rural vermont offers plenty of good places to suddenly swerve off the road to dive into the mud and hop right back on thee beaten path again. also, there is the issue of winter being our longest season... the only reason i have some semblance of sanity is my xj, when its not the cause of the aneurysm, that is... the other reason im not feral is my snowboard. where is he going with this, you ask? well, this on time, we got this epic snowstorm on valentines day. the next day, my roommate was literally digging down to get to his car... how did i know he had to dig down to his car? cause i was stuck at home watching him dig down to his car. NOT at the mountain.
so will a set of wrangler dura trac's keep my sane this winter, or am i better off to buy some winter treads for half the cost of the dura trac's and save my moneys for something different? so far i like what i have heard about the wranglers. but someone who has actually ran them through the mud and snow would know best. thanks for the info.

Get the snow tires and put an lsd in the rear!

I love my Federals, only had em spin once and thats when i had the e-brake on. $448 mounted and balanced isnt bad either for a 31x10.5. dunno how they do in snow tho, it doesnt really snow that much down here, but when i read reviews on them i never heard a bad word from anyone on them
I had the Duratracs last winter here in WI and I loved them. THey were great for stopping since i do not have anti-lock brakes. I had great traction in the snow too. I love them in the mud and they are great on the roaad. I have 31x10.5 and i never have had to balance them adn my XJ rides very very smoooth. definately thetm

First of all, we're talking about a dd so a locker is out of the question unless is selectable. Second a true-trac is pretty close to lsd anyway. There is a crazy difference between open diff and lsd in snow/ice. Here in Indiana, it can get pretty bad at times. 07 f-150 (lsd rear), never put it in 4wd in 3 yrs during the winter on the road.
