Default how bout them tires, dude!

my wrangler SR-A's suck. they are happy only on the pavement. this is becoming an issue. rural vermont offers plenty of good places to suddenly swerve off the road to dive into the mud and hop right back on thee beaten path again. also, there is the issue of winter being our longest season... the only reason i have some semblance of sanity is my xj, when its not the cause of the aneurysm, that is... the other reason im not feral is my snowboard. where is he going with this, you ask? well, this on time, we got this epic snowstorm on valentines day. the next day, my roommate was literally digging down to get to his car... how did i know he had to dig down to his car? cause i was stuck at home watching him dig down to his car. NOT at the mountain.

so will a set of wrangler dura trac's keep my sane this winter, or am i better off to buy some winter treads for half the cost of the dura trac's and save my moneys for something different? so far i like what i have heard about the wranglers. but someone who has actually ran them through the mud and snow would know best. thanks for the info.

I've heard good things about the Duratracs. We have a ton of our northern fleet client vehicles that run them, and only them.

I can personally vouch for the Firestone Destination AT's. I ran the Firestones for 40k miles and they still had 1/3 of the tread left, easily. They did all right in the Texas clay, and really performed awesome last year when we got a freak foot of snow and ice.

Duratracs will peform alot better than the bfg's especially in the snow. The duratracs have the "snowflake" rating.
Have heard nothing but positive things about them.

x2 on the Duratrac's..... LOVE them. Live in Michigan and have only found that ice and really loose sand make them unhappy.

THANKS FOR THE INFOS!! im diggin the talk... keep it coming... there is little to nada that is going to deter me from purchasing at least 4 of them.

QUESTION: is it cool to use one of my old SR-A's with good tread life as a full sized spare, knowing im PROBABLY not planning on wheelin TOO hard (careful choice of words there) the dura's will be 31x1050's. i like rocks, not deep mud.. forget sinking my axles and whatnot...

I loved the bfg at's on my pickup with one exception - They kept slinging the clamp-on weights off. It was incredibly hard to keep them balanced. I have no experience with other brands...

If you like playing in mud, then I would definitely forget about the BFG's, those things are about the worst time there is in mud, great on everything else though, never had duratracs, but I've heard nothing but good stuff about 'em, personally I'd go with BFG KM2's or a set of those Goodyear Authority AT's they sell at walmart, they're cheap and look really cool too, remind me a lot of the Toyo Open Country MT's.

also the duras are a 10ply! classy.

checked out the competition. i laughed. then i laughed more... the duras are not the most aggressive tread, blah blah, blah... but the idea of a mud tire is to grab and throw, right? and the idea of the snow tire is all the little sipping. the sipping is supposed to pack with snow, and then, like a snowball, binds to the snow on the ground and propels you forward. the duras got it all. and in a bunch of off sizes, too.

i have them GY Authoritys from wallfart and I dig them..paid 130.00 a piece for them. definitly worth the price of admission..click on my albums for some mounted shots...they remind me of the good old Norseman tires(most of you are way too young to know what those tires are but they were the best in their days)...i have just under 10k on them and dont show wear at all..just a couple of cuts do to my stupidity and not trimin my fender...still very nice tires..they have a nice little hum to them and wear very well..
just my two cents
Cameron
