Removing the front sway bar is NOT a good idea if you're using it as a DD. The rear is crap, so if you have it, pull it off and throw it out. Having the front off when you're on the trails is great, but if you're on the road it needs to be on for safety reasons. Others may say you'll be fine, but that's only dependent on your driving skills, not others. Other drivers' stupidty can cause you to have to make sudden changes, and without the front sway bar, there's a good chance of a roll over happening. My advice, leave it in when you're on the road.

If you're running a stock Jeep, bending a link is pretty rare, so my guess is that you've lifted you XJ, but didn't get longer links for the front sway bar. This caused the top of the links to bend and the result is your current problem. There are really 3 solutions to your problem, and I'll go from what I belive to be worst to best.

1. You could bend the links back to where they need to be and get relocation brackets for the sway bar. This however requires buying the brackets, drilling, threading the holes, making sure the bend in the link is correct, and then making sure the sway bar is lined up correctly inorder for it to function properly. Not hard, but time consuming.

2. Buy longer links and solve the problem without having to drill any holes. Pretty easy fix. Take off the top and lower nut on each link, remove the bushing, and the link comes right off. Put the new one on, refasten everything and you're good to go. Until you decide to go offroad and what the extra flex that runnign without a sway bar gives you. Now you get to pull out the socket and ratchet, undo that the top and bottom nuts, remove the link, secure the sway bar, and then FINALLY hit the trail.

3. Buy a set of quick disconnects. This truly is the best option, as you keep the stability of having the sway bar connected when you're on the road, but also have the ability to disconnect the sway bar in about 30 seconds when you decide to hit the path less taken. I'd recommend a set of JKS quicker disconnects.
