How to adjust throttle cable when button sticks and won't pop back up on its own.
I have looked everywhere. My throttle cable button sticks and I have to press it in hard to get it to release and pry it up to get it to lock. This means I don't know where the throttle cable should be positioned because it won't pop up on its own. No ammount of penetrating lube will make the button not stick. Tried adjusting the throttle cable in different positions but can't find the correct position to fix the acceleration / shifting problems. I can't be the only one with this problem but can't find any info. I appreciate any advice someone can give. 1997 xj 4.0 auto

I'm guessing you are talking about the cable to the tranny? Set it with almost zero play. Thickness of a dime or less from the barrel on the end of the cable to where it makes contact, will be fine.
