Quote: FINALLY!!!!

I finished the full tank of gas and the total amount of miles was.........180!!!!
WTF?!?! I used seafoam, cleaned the air filter and changed the fuel filter!

Now my question is since im running 33's did i actually travel more than 180? If so what would be a closeestimate of what i drove?
I estimate its around 28 miles more, so you may be closer to 200 miles for that tank. The problem isn't just the difference in the odometer, it also has to do with the extra gas pedal you're pressing to make the vehicle go down the road.
Are you driving in 3 all the time yet? If not, this discussion is pointless. Re-gear if you're not going to at least try it.

I have been driving in 3 most of the time...also when I fueled up it took 17.5 gallons and when I refuled it took 17.2 so its pretty accurate.

I'm planning on re-gearing but what kind of MPG's would I see? As of now I'm getting around 10.5 mpg would it be a significant jump?

Yes it will be significant. It's different for every rig. I've heard of people jumping 6 mpgs when regearing and I've heard of people jumping 3. Either way, I see that as a huge improvement

And if I'm correct, and you're traveling 28 more mile per tank than what the odometer reads, then filling to 17.2 gallons would be just over 12mpg- which isn't too far off the mark for a lifted XJ on 33" tires.

That is definitely attainable with the proper gears, a header that isn't cracked, a fresh upstream o2 sensor, a cat that isn't clogged, etc etc

Ok so this time I managed to get 195 i think all the old man driving helped

Quick question Im limited on funds so Im thinking of regearing my rear end for now and doing the front in a few weeks. Would it screw up the drivetrain I heard some of the jeeps had full time AWD?

Nah if you stay in 2H you'll be fine. Different gears in an NP231 will definitely cause serious problems if you put it in 4WD. For an NP242, which has the full-time 4WD, I don't imagine it would be good but I don't think you'd face a failure as drastic or fast as with a 231

My experience was gearing, replacing o2 sensor, and exhaust (including cat) made the biggest difference in mpg.

I thought my exhaust wasn't too bad until I replaced it with 2.5" pipe. I found the packing in the cat had collapsed, the stock muffler had also collapsed internally.
With the replacement, my highway mileage jumped from 13 to 16.5!

I have a 6.5" lift, roof rack, and 32" tires.....
