Passenger side is fine. Driver side will not shut right away. Is this a pain in the *** repair to do myself or is it relatively straightforward and easy to take care of?

Its fairly common, I would just go pick up another complete locking mechanism and replace it yourself. Pretty straightforward.

 

Yeah, I saw that the parts are pretty cheap. I looked in my Jeep manual and didn't see anything mentioning how to replace the latch mechanism. Is it difficult to get to any of the areas that have to be attached/detached?

 

Never personally done it myself but I have never heard of anybody having problems with the replacement. Anytime I looked into it everything looked pretty easy to replace and to get to.

 

usually it just needs a little wd40

step 1: spray everything that moves
step 2: pull hood latch
step 3: push hood latch
step 4: repeat steps 1-3
step 5: repeat step 4 until loose
