the black ones on the rubber tube going to the tb? Get a flat head screwdriver, and stick in where you find the end of the clamp (in the open part on the side with the teeth) and twist the screwdriver, so it prys them apart that should get it loose
mine goes up towards the cowl, and im sure it getscold air, cus ive been getting better mpg since i put it there

I just built a cold air intake for my 97 XJ (5.25" lift, 32" mt/r's). I took some 14 gauge steel and bent an L shape to isolate the filter in the left front corner of the engine compartment. I then had an 11" piece of 3" muffler tubing bent to the angle I needed, had it swedged to fit in the stock rubber intake elbow. I then welded a 1/2" diameter tube to the muffler tubing for the crankcase ventilator tube. Around the top edge I zip-tied some split gas tubing and then installed a 5"x4.5" K&N filter that I purchased from Rusty's Offroad for about $35 bucks. Since I already had the steel, and the guy at the muffler shop didnt charge me for bending the pipe, so I only invested the cost of the filter into my CAI. One other thing I might do later on is insulate the steel tubing to prevent it from heating the air before the air enters the throttle body.

Mine kind of looks like XJ?2010's. Also did mine while I was in high school.

I used all Spectre parts for my intake. I used a 45 degree elbow attached to a 6 inch straight pipe which connected to my filter. I used a piece of aluminum to mount it to one of the stock airbox bolts. All in all I like it and it works out pretty well.
