Haha thats awesome, i was thinking the same thing about the cone too, looks like we differed a little bit though because i ended up cutting some of the metal off the tubing to shorten it....and also cut the rubber tubing at the bend to get rid of some of the ribs on it (cant tell if you did that)

You havnt by chance had an issue with it moving and hitting the throttle have you?

Well the only thing i suggest is getting is snugged down somehow.....mine went a longgg time before finally catching on that cable....thats whats nice about the hacked up air box, stablized it as well as doubled for the shield...i think i may cut a little more on it though so the filter can tuck down a little further lol

take a strip of mettal and attach it to the end of your cai and then attach it to inside your engine bay. my thought would be to rotate that clamp on end near the filter and attach there and then find a mounting point.

I used one section of intake tube from pep boys at a slight bend. And I drilled and tapped it for the factory lines going to the airbox. Used a Discount Auto Parts Spectre filter. Maybe 40-50 bucks into it. I used the factory airbox to support it, but I wanna make a fully enclosed and insulated box for it down the road to make it truly cold air induction...

So where are all the cold air intakes? I see a bunch of warm/hot air intakes. If you want a real cold air intake, route it out with a snorkel

Those are some nice setups though. You guys may have convinced me to spend some more dollars and mess with my intake.

You make a good point. I plan on building a new airbox out of an insulated material and maybe use some kind of heatshield over it to help keep the heat out. I would then widen the intake duct behind the headlight to allow for more airflow, as well as add a small airflow director behind the grill to "scoop" air towards the opening behind the headlight. This would be great on the street but would obviously suck off road. I'm sure it would scoop up all kinds of dust. So I was thinking of building the box so that it can be sealed at the duct behind the headlight for off road use and possible run another intake duct to the cowl area for off road use. I even did a crappy paint drawing of my idea, minus the cowl portion...

I'm prettty sure the one I would build would be a bit less complicated, or cartoonish looking lol. I'm just tired of my XJ having to breath in that overly hot engine bay. I'm sure it would appreciate the breath of fresh air too...

You could route it into the cowl area where it will draw in fresh cool air. It's been done but i cannot find the write-up.
